There are things we know, from historical accounts, about the work which went on at RAF Tollerton, and there is a thing we know from today.
The 1st thing we know is major aircraft fabrication took place in the two main hangars at RAF Tollerton. Those hangars exist no longer.
The 2nd thing we know is one of these hangars was torn down and the Tollerton Park estate built on its site.
The 3rd thing we know is the other main hangar was hastily demolished and the Spire hospital now sits where it once stood.
The 4th thing we know is the soil from the site the Spire hospital was built on was removed without any radioactive or chemical contamination analysis.
Similarly, the 5th thing we know is the soil around the Tollerton Park estate was removed – in contravention of planning conditions imposed by RBC (though 2 radioactive hotspots were subsequently discovered on that site).
The 6th thing we know is over 1,000 aircraft were taken onto the airfield’s perimeter where they were towed out to various locations where they were burned.
The 7th thing we know (and it’s important to understand this one after reading the 6 points above) is the number of detailed, independent, radiological and chemical contamination surveys which have been conducted across the boundaries of the former RAF Tollerton is… zero.
Despite Taylor-Wimpey’s deeply-flawed SPD, we all need to continue applying pressure on RBC to halt the planning process, and to engage independent experts to conduct a full and detailed survey of the former RAF Tollerton.
The planning process must be stopped until these surveys have been completed and the results made public in full.
