Rushcliffe Council are getting desperate and, as their desperation grows, their messaging and their press releases are becoming even more weird than normal.
Since our papers for the High Court landed on desks at RBC, the council crashed straight into panic mode. Yesterday’s briefing to the local press demonstrates a continuation of their panic. RBC have spent a lot of time revising the supplementary planning document (SPD) which our campaign has issued an application to the High Court over. Our legal team has gone through the SPD, highlighted all the problems with it, and sent their brief to RBC and to the High Court.
What RBC have done is to revise and rewrite all of the issues our legal team have identified, Effectively, RBC are using our campaign and our legal team to mark their homework, for example:
RBC are taking an updated SPD (this would be the 3rd version of document, but it’s still got critical flaws in it) to a council meeting for approval. That Cabinet report states the Council “does not consider the grounds of (SNAGs) claim to have merit or be arguable.”
However, in the same document, RBC confirms the revisions they have introduced were put in specifically to address “points raised in (our campaign’s) claim”.
This is clearly nonsense from RBC; they are behaving like a small child who has been caught stealing cookies from the jar. We should expect more childish wriggling from RBC this week, as they gear up to approve the 3rd version of the horribly unfit for purpose SPD.
